Sea Point Promenade - NMT Investigation

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The City of Cape Town has been receiving complaints about conflict between pedestrians and cyclists on the Sea Point Promenade. The investigation required the collection of pedestrian and cyclist volumes, analysis of crash data and the identification and evaluation of options to reduce or remove conflicts between the two modes. The process included consultations where the preferred option was identified. The technically preferred option of separating pedestrians from cyclists was not financially affordable due to significant spatial constraints. The public consultation resulted in the existing status quo being retained.
